Read on to discover the simple truths behind great hair.

Myth: Frequent trims make hair grow faster 

While regular trims are a great way to keep your hair healthy, monthly snips won’t turn you into Rapunzel. On average, hair grows about half an inch every month regardless of whether or not you trim it. While cutting ends will prevent damage and encourage stronger, healthier hair, it doesn’t tell the roots to grow faster. However, healthy hair may appear longer, since it’s free from dry, damaged and broken ends. So visiting your salon every eight to 12 weeks is still the key to maintaining healthy, long locks.

Myth: Switching shampoos can make hair look healthier 

It may seem so, but experts scoff. Hair can’t tell the difference between brands or build up tolerance to any product. Your favorite shampoo will work the same every time you lather up, week after week, month after month. If you have very oily hair or favor a particularly sticky styling product that contains wax, it does pay to use a clarifying shampoo once every two weeks to wash away residue.

Myth: Conditioners should not be used for oily hair 

Oily hair is caused by the overproduction of sebum, a waxy, oily substance that comes from the tissues of the scalp—so skipping conditioner altogether is not going to cure the problem. Instead, we recommend those with oily hair to shampoo the roots with a clarifying shampoo and the ends with a moisturizing shampoo. Apply conditioner to the middle and ends of your hair only, steering clear of the scalp. Once your hair is dry, applying dry shampoo can help absorb excess oil. Since oil deposits can build up on styling tools and redistribute them throughout your hair.  Keep your brush clean by occasionally using a fine-toothed comb to remove the hair that can get stuck in its teeth.

Myth: You should brush your hair 100 strokes every day

Brush it only to style it, because brushing that much can damage the hair cuticle. NOT recommended! Actually, your hair reacts better to a comb than a brush. Brushing it will only lead to split ends and hair breakage.

Myth: You can mend split ends with the right products 

Once they’re split, that’s it. The only thing you can do then is cut them off. In order to make split ends less noticeable apply a product containing silicone or beeswax. It will temporarily seal ends together, making hair softer and more manageable.

Myth: Dying your hair will cause major damage

Almost every woman makes use of hair coloring today. It has become an inevitable fashion.Products today are better than the products people used in the past for dying hair. They are specially designed not to weaken the hair root and some even leave it more manageable and healthy looking than before. However, you should stay away from cheap products containing Ammonia, p-Phenylenediamine, Hydrogen Peroxide, Monoethanolamine, Coal tar, Formaldehyde, Eugenol, Mercury or lead and other harmful preservatives.

Myth: Salon products are identical to drugstore products

Even though salon products and drugstore products might have the same ingredients, the amounts of those ingredients per bottle are making the difference. Salon conditioners, contain more moisturizers and proteins, while the drugstore products only have small amounts of these ingredients and they are claiming to be conditioners.

    Is it better for your hair if you wash it less frequently? Always wondered about that.

      It depends on your hair and scalp type. It is advised not to over wash hair, however if hair is too oily than there is no need to wait several days in order to washt it.

    I have found washing my hair just 2x or 3x a week has helped it stay healthier inbetween trims.

    If you are at the gym everyday, washing seems to be the only way to go. Since I cut mine off, I have to, before it was every 2nd day4
